One would expect that if the rear bumper was damaged, and that rear bumper was an aftermarket part, say a Racing Beat item, then the insurance company would replace it with a stock item unless you convince them otherwise. Realistically, how is the Body Repair Shop going to know if you don't inform them?

That’s good and bad. Since they don’t care, the mods don’t add to the value of the car as it sits, making it easier to reach the $$$ threshold to total it. That’s potentially bad. OTOH, if they do total it, they have no grounds to squawk if you choose to remove all your mods before it gets towed away, since their presence or absence doesn’t change the value of the car. The best scenario is if they’ll fix the car. Perhaps you’ll even get a new paint job for free. Here’s hoping that’s what happens. Mine was rear-ended on the freeway 5 or 6 years ago (by a stolen car, so covered by my UIM policy). Adjustor showed up at the body shop, confirmed that it needed a new rear bumper, never heard a peep out of them about the modifications.
