Whilst our society continues to function without wide-spread gun ownership,
it's absurd to suggest a comparison with car ownership. Our society does
NEED cars, there's no going back to the dark ages: essential logistical
functions could not be carried out without them, we would be unable to
ensure the distribution of sufficient food, and people would die.

Hardly comparable to indulging the power-fantasies of the terminally
paranoid, no matter how much they'd like to have the facility to
conveniently murder other human-beings (should the whim so take them).
