Protein does build muscle but Tink is absolutely right about Amino Acids. Much of dietary concerns revolve around metabolism. Protein in our body breaks down on a daily basis and that is why we are needing to replace it. Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein in the body. It's a lot more complicated with Enzymes, Hydrolysis and other elements of the digestive process. But that is the general picture.
