That may have been a better image 20 years ago especially in regard to learning English as quickly as possible and public education standards versus the previous waves of immigrants mostly from Europe. Was reading some passages from Harold Bloom's "The Western Canon" and feel in sync with his philosophy- am traditional rather than admiring impacts of diversity and feminism upon certain departments- but it's a losing position.
