Well, the institutionalized insane are those who are insane and pose a threat to society. There are many, many more people walking around the streets homeless or bouncing around from home to home who are not a threat, break no laws, but are quite ill and limited in their ability to contribute to society or provide for themselves or anyone else. On the other hand, have heard relative wisdom in the expressions of those with down syndrome, autism, or several other disorders that prevent the full integration of self. Something to consider.
