I just thought I'd add this rather kabbalistic exegesis here to help
(!) explain a few things:

On the second day, God created the right (Chesed) and the left
(Geburah). From the right issues mercy, kindness and the basis for
‘good’; from the left issues justice, cruelty and the basis for
‘evil’. These are balanced in beauty (Tiphareth), the heart and soul
of God. In beauty, all things are joined and, because this is where
all things are joined, it is called the heart of God. Because all
consciousness derives from this beauty, it is called the soul of God.
Our spirit/soul is but a portion of that soul of God that stems from
beauty, which is why both left and right are present in us.
