hmmm, another ac97 eap having problems with aucat.
just out of curiousity, can you try the following:
$ aucat -l &
$ audioctl {play,record}.block_size
check both play.block_size and record.block_size match, if they do,
kill aucat and
$ cd /usr/src/regress/sys/dev/audio_rw
$ OPTS="-b $BLOCKSIZE" make DO_AUTEST=1
BLOCKSIZE is the block_size from above
