Do you really think these people buy them for any other reason? They are all
just trying to outdo the Joneses. And, BTW, screw minivans, too. If you
need to haul kids, and you need snow capability, buy a Volvo AWD, and Audi
Quattro, or a Subaru, and TAKE A CLASS ON HOW TO DRIVE. I cannot stress
enough how 4WD or AWD cannot make up for lack of skill, or total stupidity
behind the wheel. Most minivan and SUV owners prove that point on a daily
basis.

Either you don't yet have kids or have extraordinary strong
lower back muscles...

IMO, the biggest problem w/ sedans/wagons/SUVs is that the doors
don't open wide enough because they don't slide.
Try loading a baby carrier into the middle of the rear seat in a sedan/wagon.
It aint fun and you're likely to forever invite your chiropractor
to the kids' b-day parties.

With a typical minivan w/ sliding doors, you have plenty of room to
do that; you can actually get in the van w/out taking
yoga lessons. Imagine that!!! Even an SUV has some advantage over
a sedan/wagon because of its height; lifting a toddler
into a child seat on an SUV is actually easier than doing so in a sedan.

Try this: offer to load/unload your neighbor's kids from various
vehicles every day for the next 3 months and then come back and
let us know what you think. Until then, think of pleasant thoughts
and wave the next time you see an SUV/minivan driver w/ baby seats
installed. If they don't have baby seats, well ok, cut them
off and slam on your brakes if you like :-).

Now full sized trucks that's obviously not used for work (ie no
tool box or lumber rack) and not even equipped w/ a tow
hitch is another story...

Personally, I can't stand driving our SUV; I'd much rather drive
a sedan but it's just too damn difficult to play tennis w/ a bummed back...

For the obligatory A2 content: at Saturday's practice autox, I
was able to stay ahead of just about all of the hondas/integras/preludes
w/ the exception of 2 very prepared CRX Sis and one very flat
handling Si hatchback with race tires. I also kept ahead of a couple of Miatas
which was a first for me. I sat in one for several laps and
boy are they fast and fun. I just don't care for convertibles
and would buy one had they produced the proposed Miata coupe
a few years ago. I'm hoping to do some time trials and road
racing in the near future... :-)

Also, I managed to crossthread (not sure if it was completely my fault)
the rear subframe bolt while mucking w/ the front sway bar.
Any tips on how to deal w/ that short of cutting out the sheet metal and welding in
a new nut? What a pisser!!!
