Ok Guys,

It's late and I'm tired, so I'm going to keep this brief, but
hopefully include all necess. info.

I have two technical issues that didn't cure themselves over the
winter storage of my 16V, 2.0l Motronic. The first has to do with
water/rain/moisture. It rained most of the night last night. This AM I
went out and started my car. Started and idled fine. I got 2 minutes
down the road and it died on me. It slowly started to loose power and
then when i put the clutch in and held it for a second, it stalled. I
tried to restart it multiple times. It would fire, catch, and hold for
a second or 2 at idle, then die. If I gave it some gas during the
second or 2 it was idling, I could get it to stay running, albeit very
roughly. As soon as I let off the gas, it would die. Having had this
problem last season, I knew that if I unplugged the connector @ the DPR,
the car would start and idle fine. It was driveable, but w/very poor
performance. I drove the car for about 10 min. w/the DPR unplugged.
Then I pulled over, plugged it back in, and the car started and ran fine
after that for the rest of the day. I even went to a car wash and hosed
off the car to see if I could duplicate the symptoms. No luck. This
only happens when the car has been sitting in the rain for an extended
period.

Any ideas?? I'm thinking something got wet/acquired moisture during
the night and was causing fucked up signals to the DPR? When I drove
the car w/the DPR unplugged this allowed the engine to warm up and
evaporate whatever moisture was causing the problem. BUT WHERE??

Problem 2-- I still have this backfire I've been bitching about for
a while. THis is driving me nuts!! I've already blowing one exhaust.
I've got another on the way and don't want to ruin it. Here's what
happens. I start and run a cold car (been sitting over night or for
8+hrs). It runs fine for 10-15 minutes. It reaches normal operating
temp. Then, usually when I am accelerating under a load (i.e. from a
stop light, up a hill, etc.) I get a sudden loss of power (the last time
it happened the car almost came to a complete stop), then a varying
intensity bang (the last one was so loud it caused a chick to scream),
and then a puff of smoke out the back. Can't see the color of the
smoke, but assuming it is black. Then, for the rest of the time the car
is running it runs fine. Every once and a while will get the occasional
miss, but it's not consistent. This only happens ONCE, when i first am
driving a cold engine.

Any ideas??? I'm at a total loss. It has new Bosch super plugs,
new plug wires, and newish cap and rotor. That's all i've replaced in
the ignition.

Any and all help/ideas are APPRECIATED!! i need to fix these two
problems, they r driving me nuts!!!!! not to mention, embarrassing as
all hell.

If u need any clarification on details, just ask. Come on guys, I
can't be the ONLY A2 16V to have experienced these things.

TIA,
