i disagree.  boge shocks are bad, and a waste of money at any price. 
between the three sets my friends had on their cars, at least one corner
on every set blew within months of installation.  one replacement also
blew within another few months.  ive seen two tokikos go as well (one
was the replacement) so i also avoid them like the plague.  

IMHO, if you are trying to retain near stock suspension, keep the stock
suspension.  call me crazy, but it just makes sense that way.  get
slightly bigger swaybars if you need just "a little bit more", as
they'll give a near stock ride, but a little more stability in the
corners.  

dont bother with softsports either.  same reason, same remedy. 

OTOH, if you want the ride of stock suspension, but the "look" of a
lowered car, sell the VW.  it doesnt want you anyway.
