I've been running plain old 10W-40 Valvoline, going 6 - 7000 miles between changes (I *do* leak some out and have to keep adding!); the engine is as assembled by the factory, NEVER opened up, and now has 220,800+ miles on it. Yes, the rev limiter still works, or did as recently as this morning. Only the last few months have shown tappety-tap from followers; before that, not any sound except after a couple of days sitting in dead of winter (say, -10 to -20 degrees F), when they'd take half a minute to pump up at idle. The cam lobes visble through the oil filler hole are clean & polished-looking, with no visible wear. I have a long commute (over 58 miles each way), so the car gets fully warmed up nearly every trip: if I did short jaunts all the time, I'd change 'way more often. The last case I bought, local sale price, $0.69 per quart, if you're wondering what I mean by cheap oil. HTH. Dont mean to start up this question again, but i was just wondering as it seems that most of you use mobil 1. I was just wondering what a good cheap oil is? i'm looking for something good, but that doesnt cost too much. Also how long do you guys go between oil changes using conventional oil, and how long when using synthetic? The past couple oil changes i've used kendal GT1 20-50, which was relativly cheap and someone told me it was pretty good. but i dont know how true that is.
