If luck is with you, an air impact wrench will remove the nut; otherwise, you'll need the special tool, or a substitute can be made from a piece of pipe with a couple of notches (IF you have that particular version of the strut & nut setup - I've seen several different ones on various cars, especially after most have had at least one replacement made). I will be using a well equipped shop with air tools. I read about the kidney bushings in the VW performance book and it looks like a good idea.
