Thanks for all the answers, although now i have a few more questions.
While i would love to go with coilovers all around that is quite a bit over
my budget.
The shocks on my current car are shot (stock suspension), and i was hoping
to replace them now that i have time. I wanted to do everything at once
since i will be doing hte work myself anyways (meaning new shocks and
springs).
So i was looking at using the H&R race springs that are listed on
parts4vws.com they state it lowers the car about 1.4 inches which is just
what i would want, and then using Bilstien sport shocks with these springs.

would that be a decent setup, or am i better getting one of the 'kit'
suspensions that includes everything at once.

Someone mentioned the shine racing suspension, and i looked at it for a bit.
It seems pretty good but the spring rates seem a bit low to me. it says
200lb front and 120lb rear.

anyone have any advice here? i'm hoping to buy something pretty soon
Thanks in advance

-Denis
