The setup: '90 GLI Factory 2l, freshened with new rings and bearings Factory motronic, GIAC chipped Eurosport exhaust, new cat airbox horn removed
I had been running a 2l 16v head and a euro intake cam. I went to a 1.8 16v head and the TT camset. I'm still not sure what head gives more power, or if it even makes a difference. I spoke to Colin at TT about the heads and he said it was a wash. Since I did the different cams, I couldn't dyno to see... Anyways, the cams are the same grind as the 150hp 16v's that came in the A3's in europe. They're NOT the actual VW cams, just the grind. On TT's site they show a dyno which shows stock power to 4300 rpm, then the TT cams just take off in hp and torque. Seeing this I expected an "on cam" feeling once I hit 4500 rpm or so. The cams don't evidence this at all, the power is extremely linear and even. Very, very smooth, no peaks etc. The engine revs smoothly to 7000 rpm with no complaints. I don't feel power falling off until after 6500 rpm. I easily pulled away from my friends 16v rocco, despite the fact my car weighs more. Low end feels just as stout as stock, I can spin the tires in gear in first, just like before. (ie, just cruising along if I mash it, they spin) I just got the car back, so these are my initial impressions. Hard to say if they're worth the money, is anything worth the money? I just paid to get my AC fixed, I'm wondering ift that's worth it now that it's 70 degrees outside. Doh! Seriously tho, these cams give alot of power up top with seemingly no loss down low. They're expensive, but not as much as the Schricks and you can run the factory valve springs. I'll let ya guys know more once I've put some miles on them... -josh ===== Josh Wyte Momentum Motorsports 508-833-3024 After 5 pm EST __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
