Probably a long shot but....

Just curious, do you know if this Scirocco has an alarm system in it?
The Golf I own has an alarm system in it installed by the previous owner.
From time to time the alarm system malfunctions (goes off and does not reset properly). When that happens the starter cutoff kicks in and I get the "appearance" of a dead battery
(ie faint click of starter and digital clock disappears).
One of these days I will get around to disconnecting the alarm system and starter cutoff.

I know this is not a Scirocco list but this is 16V related. I'm looking to
purchase a Scirocco 16V but I could not get the car to start or even crank
for that matter. I put a fresh fresh battery in it. The pump pressurizes with
the key on the on position, key all the way: nothing but a faint click at the
starter, no crank at all. The digital clock display also goes blank.

I suspect the starter. What do you guys think? The car has been sitting over
a year and was running over the summer. The owner has no idea how old the
starter is. Lastly, the battery that was in the car before I swapped in a
fresh one looked new but was down to 2 volts. Wonder if this means there is a
short somwhere. The clock going blank could relate to a current draw while
the key is in the start position.

Thanks,
