It is easy (if it works), just short a jumper and then use tftp boot method.
However, if you can get to Linksys firmware you just need to upload a .bin of the new firmware through the admin/upgrade interface. dd-wrt has docs on all this as well as how to find the right firmware for your router. I actually use Tomato now on wrt54g.
