It is not your server - we have been running flawlessly until several days
ago and now can not get rid of the problem

Subject: [Modus] HELP HELP Message from Vircom Support Desk: Temporary
workaround for the Virus Update issue.

As the virus definition update problem keeps on reappearing
we killed the moduscan / modusadm services using the task manager.

Stopping the services did not work anymore!

After this I cannot start any of these 2 services again!!

I always get the error :

Error 0xe0100006: 0xe0100006

Rebooting the whole server does NOT help so we are stuck!

Any suggestion on how to get the server up again would
be welcome.

Please answer to [EMAIL PROTECTED] as I cannot ready my
normal email anymore.

regards,
Christian

RB> If you are experiencing problem getting the Virus updated, please follow
RB> these following steps. This is a temporary workaround.

RB> STEP-1 Try "soft-stopping" the services to force the update.

RB> Try stopping moduscan
RB> Try stopping modusadm
RB> Start both services
RB> Do an update now.

RB> If you get an error message, try step-2

RB> STEP-2 Try "hard-killing" the services to force the update.

RB> Try stopping moduscan
RB> Try KILLING modusadm

RB> To kill modusadmin, you can get the kill command here:
RB> http://www.vircom.com/supteam/kill.exe. Put it in your windows or winnt
RB> folder then invoke it from a DOS command line:

RB> kill modusadm

RB> Start both services
RB> Do an update now.

RB> If it still fails, try setp-3

RB> STEP-3 Check to see if you have an AVUPDATE process in task manager

RB> Check in task manager, is there a process AVUPDATE?
RB> If there is, kill it with the same kill tool downloaded in the previous
RB> step
RB> Try KILLING modusadm
RB> STOP Moduscan
RB> Start Modusadm and Moduscan
RB> Do an update now.

RB> If it still fails,

RB> STEP-4) Do a reboot to force an update.

RB> Shutdown and reboot the server.
RB> Do an update now.

RB> Notify us ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) which step fixes the issue. We're
RB> recording every instance this happens to better understand why some
RB> customers are having difficulties with the Virus update.

RB> To all customers,

RB> We have received complaints from some customers about an error received
RB> from the auto-update and the Update Now function. We are currently
RB> investigating the problem and will be posting the result of our finding.

RB> In the mean time, we believe the problem is caused when Modus tries to
RB> load the new Virus definition. It appears that a file(s) may be locked
RB> by the OS or other processes. Some customers have fixed the problem by
RB> stopping and restarting Moduscan and ModusADM. Others have fixed the
RB> problem by rebooting their servers.

RB> Support department will be posting more information on how to correct
RB> the Update process.

RB> We take this problem very seriously and will keep posting new
