I started using SimpleDNS because we seriously needed to upgrade from BIND
4.9.x and the newest versions of BIND (at that time) looked foreign to what
we were used to with 4.9. We found SDNS and it had such a simple interface
that we began to use it. It is not a bad product at all but it has its
pro's and con's. It is simple to use, does autocreate on secondaries and is
very RFC compliant. On the down side, it requires quite a bit more juice on
a Win32 box than does BIND on a *nix box. The GUI is very nice and makes
setup really easy but you have to pay for that convenience in hard dollars
with a Win32 box and enough juice to run it.

I'll take a look at this new deal, it sounds really interesting. Can always
depend on David to have new and interesting products and ideas floating
around in his head! ;-)

There is a newcomer that is in beta now and an interesting group of techies
in the discussion group. Number13.com software is developing a DNS server
that will autocreate secondaries and is highly RFC compliant. The beta stage
of development it is in now is at the web interface for administrators.
Several SimpleDNS users have begun to migrate to it.

You can talk directly to the developer Richard Sloman on the newsgroup here:

news://news.number13.com and the group is number13.support.n13dns

The latest beta is here: http://www.number13.com/products/dnsserver/
