Just off the top of my head, Pioneer, Akai and Zenith sold Sony- manufactured Betamax VCRs under their own names, while NEC, Sanyo and (ironically in the context of this discussion) Toshiba were licensees who manufactured their own range of Betamax VCRs. Wherever did you get the information that Betamax was only made by Sony?
