I'm with Franc on this one. I'm sure even Michaelangelo had off days,
and so do some of the best-known restorers in the hobby. A lot depends
on which studio employee is doing the restoration. There are usually a
fair number of people working at a busy studio. As in any other artistic
endeavor, skill levels are going to vary somewhat, and there also seems
to be a certain amount of turnover in these facilities. On the other
hand, I had some really good work done by the much-maligned Eugene
Hughes. I actually got my posters back, too. Go figure.
Still, there is an average level of quality associated with certain
names out there, like Studio C, Precision Restoration, or our own Susan
Olson. A sticker on the back of the poster, like Heritage has on its
auction items, wouldn't be a bad thing. But nobody's perfect; hell, even
Stevie Ray Vaughan missed a lick or two occasionally.

really lousy work by the same well-known restorers. Putting a stamp of
the back of posters wouldn't necessarily mean anything. FRANC

I agree that the work should speak for itself, but having
attended a lot of auctions over the years and having seen a
lot of shoddy restoration jobs it certainly would save a lot
of time in looking at items if I knew lot X was restored by
person Y – then I wouldn’t even need to waste my time looking
at the piece.
