i can see poster collectors thoughts if they only see the poster as
a art element or somehow want to keep it Original in its condition..

However maybe its because I see Movie memorabilia as a much wider
arena then just posters alone//
see why i got into being a dealer was that I wanted to be around show
business as that what I liked as a hobby and as a profession and so
the entire business intrigued me... not as investment but as a
passion.... the behind the scens people , the craftsman, the
camermen, the writers , the agents, directors, prop people You name
it... simply put the dream factorys and the studios made me
hyperventalate !!! so to actually meet a Ray harryhausen or talk to
linwood Dunne on the phone... or shake hands with somone in film was
such a rush and also when they would say something... like when I
asked Pete Best the Beatles 1st drummer what would you tell Tommy to
do?? he said well Practice and never give up... that to me was a
million dollar moment... Ormeeting Drew Struzan at a Star wars
celebration ... his words and how he handled himself was so Humble as
where the Hildebrandt bothers when in NYC... its just the stuff that
inspires ... so perhaps I love the cinema business because i love the
crators that make it... the poster is to me just the stamp or salute
to the film...
when i think of saving Private ryan.. which i saw again the other
day... its BEB Burrts excellent sound design and Stevens treatment on
the screen, the actors, the sound track, the ambiance of the shaky
camera to give the feeling of there...
However sure the poster captures the moment like a Photo.. and if the
artist or designer can summerize that film in the art then its a
wonderful tribute to that Film.... as for autographs they are just
proof that you brushed elbows with people you admired and where part
of the phenomonon of the film...
many times I passed on signings for a handshake and to look at the
star or person and say thanks for doing a great job...
I would much prefer having a lunch and just talk then have stuff...
I always dreamed of Spielberg and Lucas and just talking as i like
what they have done and im sure they have stories.. also Steven is
supposed to make a mean Matzoball soup and i thought that would be
cool to try as i never had any... really the memorabilia is the
summery of the people , the creators and to me it involes the whole
crew, cast Directors and all as its a group effort,,,, when it works
and gels we call it a hit..;)
I never saved stuff because of monatary worth.. I saved iit because i
enjoyed it and liked the business of movies... somtimes i was lucky
and it sold for good money... i would always tell customers Buy it
because you love it NOT as a investment only as things can
change....if you get stuck with stuff you like anyway ... thats not
bad.. also...whats funny is most collectors not all dont see the
value until they are dead as they never wish to sell... so why not
enjoy it... sell off what you dont need and experience it and enjoy
seeing others collections and sharing the passion for film
memorabilia...? and if you get lucky maybe your stuff will sell at
auction for big bux to boot!
