Hi SA

I think the powerful in society spends alot of time and effort
trying to keep people as children: unaware of
the possibilities that really exist, and the dangers and benefits
these possibilities contain. The powerful do this for many
reasons. Fear of the masses, fear of losing their power,
fear of the ignorance and irrationality of the masses (whether
justified or not), belief in their own wisdom and goodness
and entitlement to power (whether justified or not), cynical
manipulation, lack of faith in the idea of democracy,
elitist assumptions (whether justified or not), etc.

The challenge of freedom and democratic autonomy is great,
and progress seems to have stalled. Our political leadership
is very poor. Is there not more to life than seeking continuous
economic growth? Rather do we not need to seek a higher
quality way to live together socially?
