If we value certain values more because we value more value in them,

people who evaluate art value between what's "value" and what they "value?"

I bet I could tighten further by transforming the word 'people' and
the pronouns into 'valuing agents'. I might also ask why you asked
the question? What is there other than value?

That's pretty much the essence of what I was getting at. What is there
besides value? Well, I always found Pirsig's justification for believing in
"quality" somewhat flimsy, and coming from an (admittedly, untutored) artistic
background, it seems curious to me that Pirsig feels that a definite break in
absolute quality (not subjective) can exist between two works of art. I
suppose you could say I value Bob Dylan's "Planet Waves" on a personal level
but
reject its value on an artistic level, but here I'm operating on two planes,
one of which relates to what matters to me (the former) and one as to what my
opinions mean to others (the latter). But in those grooves, there is a
(relatively) steady rhythm, no one hits any bum notes...so from that point of
view, the record has a lot of value (Quality?).
