Steve, I don't think a person should blog for philosophical discourse, unless of course he happens to be someone like Whitehead. It (writing a blog like Caryl's) can of course be interpreted to portray it as narcissistic. Not many people will actually pay attention to what you speak, because the thing is that when you are at the intellectual level of a forum's members (or even lower), then you can't expect them to go to your private blog to read what you wish to say and then comment on it on your blog. If Pirsig starts blogging, of course everybody will visit it and write comments.
A blog is meant for other people to know what's happening in your life, it is a means for them to peep through the window of your house, so to speak. Philosophical discourse is not the outside peering into the inside, rather it is the free flow of opinions among people.
