Good. Equally great new concepts can and do come
from outside of science. Was not Bohr inspired by
Kierkegaard? You might even therefore say religion
funnily enough. I suspect the most radical changes to
concepts are most likely to be found in the most
unlikely and distant places. Darwin took his ideas
from economic theory, etc etc.

Yes, as Pirsig was inspired by K.C and the Sunshine Band.

But I did not realize the Darwin was influenced by Adam Smith. I have
noticed the similarity but for whatever reason assumed the influence ran the
other way. OK so I obviously had not thought it through but as always
inspired be to think harder and I ran across this from Wealth of Nation:

"By preferring the support of domestic to that of foreign industry [every
individual] intends only his own security; and by directing that industry in
such a manner as its produce may be of the greatest value, he intends only
his own gain, and he is in this, as in many other cases, led by an invisible
hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention.. By pursuing his
own interest he frequently promotes that of the society more effectually
than when he really intends to promote it."

Odd that our resident Randians are so down on evolution and the effects of
chance. The invisible hands sure sounds like a strange attractor to me.
