[Ron] I really don't think you are a racist or a bigot, I really do think you are about excellence, but boy, sometimes Platt, what you say can be very easily misinterpreted.
[Arlo] Platt is not being misinterpreted. Can you point to one instance where he had said, in any way shape or form, that something non-white or non-American is "better"? Have you noticed how neither Platt nor Ham can provide ANYTHING substantive to back up their claim that "the destruction of America" will come "as our population becomes Hispanic"? All they can do is repeat the same empty slogans about "big, bad multiculturalism" and the 'big, bad academy". Anyone truly interested in excellence across the board would have no problem stating where American culture is superior, and where it is inferior. I mean, is there NOTHING that Hispanic culture will bring that will improve America? Is it so inferior as to be deathly and cancerous to the Glorious White American Culture? Like I said to Ham, yes, immigration is a problem, yes it needs fixin'. But that's a far cry from "Hispanic values will destroy America". One is sensible governance, the other is the new veiled language of xenophobia masquerading as objective superiority. You can always search the archives for Mexican, black, negro, interracial, and similar keywords, and look over Platt's posts containing them. If you do, I'm sure you'll find that there is no misinterpretation going on here. Find me one post where he says anything positive or indicates in any way that "Mexican cultural values", black cultural values, Indian cultural values, Hispanic cultural values might be superior or "better" in some way that White American Culture. Find me any post where he says that an intermixing of cultures or races is positive in any way. I've tried to do that by using Pirsig's own articulation on the "self-evident truths" that we pride ourselves on, by showing that these "truths" were not 'endowed by God" but were the result of intellectual activity directed at an intercultural encounter between Indian and European. They are an outgrowth of the Indian culture made abstract and idealized by European observers, which later became our founding path (albeit hypocritically). But even this, Pirsig's own account, was met with deception and distraction. Why? Again, Ron, no misinterpretation. You are a patient and peace-making man, but don't give credit where none is due.
