Hi Margaret,
I'm delighted you commented on my adding the category of artists to dmb's
supposition that philosophers and mystics might not be limited by SOM. Then
in answer to Peter's query, I listed a few artists who I would nominate as
being not SOM-limited.

You observation that neither I nor anyone can possibly know how any one
else sees the world -- SOMwise or otherwise -- is quite right and well
taken. What I did was name those artists who, on fleeting occasions,
bridged the subject-object gap for me as I viewed, listened or read their
work. Also, as an amateur painter, I've experienced total absorption in the
painting process where momentarily the awareness of self and other has
vanished. So I thought as a generalization that artists should be included
as possible SOM transcenders.

This is not to claim enlightenment of any kind but rather a recounting of
my own transient experiences of nondual awareness and, for me at least,
personal confirmation of Pirsig's ineffable DQ. For me these experiences
have always been associated with beauty, and why for me beauty is the
ultimate goodness.

Thanks for the chance to elaborate on my views.
Platt
