In the paper I quoted Pirsig is quite clear about this as well:

First,
What did was the meaning of the fragment:
He therefore has admitted to a decaying system (?)
and
Second,
I found it interesting that the question came up of whether there
truly is cosmological evolution and no one pointed out that the
evidence for such (or its recognition from another point of view)
is referred to as entropy.
