Arlo to Andre:
In this since, the very presence of inorganic patterns of value indicates
that even subatomic particles tend towards certain preferred responses,
i.e., they tend towards preference.

Andre:
Hi Arlo, yes, this was something that really excited me when I read it and,
of course, cannot be otherwise within the evolutionary/ moral considerations
built into the MoQ.

Though, I thought there were some here who see this as hogwash i.e particles
exhibiting preference.

Arlo:
This is why I emphasize that "static patterns" are "patterns of preferred
value". They are not dead, lifeless or unexciting. They are the Gestalt we
see atop a swarm of immediate experiences. And the tendency towards
preference is, coupled with dynamic uncertainty, the complimentary dance
that fuels evolution.

Andre:
Yes, and it bothered Anthony as well who suggested 'stable' instead of
'static' which goes some way to reflecting what we mean. I like yours as
well.

Arlo
Of course not. I fully agree. And if you read that into what I said about
"things tend towards preference", I apologize for not being clearer.

Andre:
You were clear, I said this with a wink to Platt.

Arlo:
Better to say, "The extent to which we are comfortable in our routines will
determine the extent to which we allow ourselves to respond in unpredicted
ways (in new ways, in creative ways, in uncertain ways) to our immediate
experience".

Andre:
Complete agreement on 'different' as well.

Can we disagree about something Arlo? This is getting too static for me.

What about the notion floating around here that everything
abstracted/extracted from DQ is conceptual, making you and me and our
histories, conceptual, my flat, table, children, girlfriend, cars, etc. etc.
concepts. In other words, all static patterns of value are concepts (all in
the head?!). All 'patterned' , preferred reality is 'concepts'
I feel very uneasy about this but must admit I haven't thought it through
completely.

Regards
Andre
