[WillBlake]
If you mean to use such a polarizing discussion to promote your notion of PC,
then it is very self serving, and no different from that evil PC you talk about.

[Arlo]
Jeezuz fucking Christ. Again with this. Do I have to spell this out yet again.
I "promote" PC that is Good. I condemn PC that is evil. And I laugh about PC
that is comical.

I am not "drawing" you into a polarizing discussion. YOU, sir, mentioned the
idea that nominating a woman based only on her gender is an evil form of PC.
YOU said gender should have no part of that.

I said BUT IT HISTORICALLY HAS! If you want to condemn "affirmative" movements
to place a woman justice, YOU have to include the context of that decision in
your argument. If "affirmative action" is evil, and we don't use it, then how
is it that a gender that makes up more than half the population isn't
represented on the Bench?

[WillBlake]
At the same time we discuss women, shall we discuss why there are not any gay
justices.

[Arlo]
Yes, we should. Why do you think no openly gay person was ever nominated for
the Court? (Some may have been gay, and we just don't know).

[WillBlake]
How about justices under the age of 30, what is up with that!

[Arlo]
Well, now this gets to "merit" issue. I think you could make a strong argument
that one needs much more experience in legal work than one could amass by the
age of thirty to serve. So "age", I'd say, is a strong factor towards "merit",
in this case.

[WillBlake]
I don't see any mute justices either, get to work!

[Arlo]
This is a good point. Why do you think there have been none? I'm not sure what
the "mute" population is to know if their representation in law-work is
under-represented or not.

[WillBlake]
What about justices that have no legal background, talk about discrimination!

[Arlo]
That's a "merit" issue, as I'm sure you know.

[WillBlake]
I believe the supreme court composition in terms of gender, is a result of
careful thinking and choosing of the right person for the position. Not, as
you may retort, an example of discrimination.

[Arlo]
So its just coincidence that the right person has almost always, historically,
been a man? Granted, for the few decades of our country women were pretty much
denied access to education and jobs, couldn't even vote for that matter, let
alone be a Judge. So we can rule out the early years as pretty much obvious
times of discrimination. We are past that, right? We live in a world where
"merit" is all that matters, right? So then why are women still
under-represented?

[WillBlake]
I find more teachers to be women.

[Arlo]
Yikes. And can you possibly guess at the historical reason for this?

[WillBlake]
Many football players are huge tough guys, many black. Should we change the
rules so that this doesn't happen?

[Arlo]
Being huge and tough matters in football. But I have seen a number of female
highschool football players that perform better than a lot of the boys on the
field.

But I am surprised you mentioned the black thing. We did change the rules,
remember Jackie Robinson? Up til that point it was a white only game. Many
people were vehemently against "niggers" playing in the Major League. So the
next time you watch a black athlete score a winning run or td for your team,
you can thank the fact that we changed the rules.

[WillBlake]
Lower the basketball nets so that it doesn't favor tall people.

[Arlo]
Height matters in basketball. So its a valid measure of whether or not one will
likely succeed. And that's fine. Can you point to me a sport where skin color
matters?

[WillBlake]
How's that for the use of hyperbole? Am I learning?

[Arlo]
I've backed up all my examples with repeated explanations that anyone with half
a brain cell could understand. Harldy "hyperbole". I understand that it sucks
for you to have the whole "retard issue" pointed out when you set up and attack
that strawman of "PC", but until YOU can show me why that is NOT an example of
PC, I stand by my assertation that it is. In other words, when you can explain
to me why its a "hyperbole", you can accuse me of this.
