This does seem to be the flaw in an arguement against a term that
stands for a general abstract meaning. Systems of government
is more accurately defined by the Governments which employed it.
So it's not so much socialism is evil it's that Governments using those
terms to define their system of Gov. are evil. Making the statement
socialism is evil an empty vaugue claim.

Right, end results like genocide or cancer victims are the product of
different systems interacting. Capitalism and socialism are economic
systems. Their domain is the distribution of wealth. Politic systems can
range from democracy to monarchy from anarchy to tyranny. The religious or
moral domain also plays an important role.

Just mixing the domains of economics, politics, and morals produces some
strange brews. Trying to isolate and fix cause on a single domain seems to
me to be the essence of SOM.

[Ron]
Socialism is mainly a response to Industrialized Capitalism.
But leaders only used it for tighter control and totalitarian rule.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The new boss had better
PR people. Propaganda. these guys not only owned your body but
your mind.
So I would say, socialism was really not put into practice yet. The kabutz
perhaps the closest. The US perhaps as a social democracy.

[Krimel]
Your point is well taken but let me remind you that humans beings most
likely evolved and adapted as a result of socialism. The environment of
early adaptation supported small groups of about 150 individuals. All
property was held in common. People shared the fruits of their labors with
their neighbors; "from each according to their ability and to each according
to their need." That's how it works on "Lost". Jack didn't ask to be the
leader. He became the leader because everyone started asking him what to do.
