[Ron] > the experience of now is reality.
Craig: And the experiences of the past too. Reality is the sum of all experiences then & now. We have an idea of the past but the past is not just an idea. There are REAL connections between the past and the present, not just conceptual ones. Otherwise, we don’t have the Grand Canyon or descendents of Adam & Eve. Ron: You make a valid point, I was having this conversation with Krimel and I took the position that experience is both percept and concept as human beings in our western society. Concept is required to undestand and make "sense" of percept. But, what must not be excluded is that concept is a static social interpretation to a large degree, currently one of objective dominance. Pirsig in the tradition of James posits that autonomic response is "pure experience" before concept has made sense and interpreted percept (conceptually speaking) That experience of pure response, which is verifyable, has no defineable casual origin conceptually in MoQ, it is where DQ and SQ (conceptually speaking) meet. The best MoQ can come up with is the term dynamic quality. Your point is valid by virtue that experiential reality is mostly defined in a cultural context, it's mostly what makes reality "real". What the focus of the MoQ is in the spirit of Pragmatism is in direct experience, when you are in the grand canyon touching, sensing your environment immediately are you experiencing it's history or the way it exists as sense in the moment? ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: moq discuss <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 12, 2009 10:25:58 PM Subject: [MD] Empirical and Historical Craig Moq_Discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/ Moq_Discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
