[Platt]
Pirsig's statement, "experience is the starting point" is a perceptual pattern
whose meaning requires the assumption of time.

[Arlo]
No. It precedes "time". "Time" is a pattern. It comes later. What you are
proposing is hopelessly reductionist.

[Platt]
How do you know atoms don't experience time?

[Arlo]
I've never met one that carried a pocketwatch. How would an atom understand
"time"? How would it understand "now" and "later"? It experiences only the
moment.

[Platt]
Substitute ""experience time" for "exercise choice" in the above. Conclusion:
Atoms must experience time, too." .

[Arlo]
Sure, I can can substitute "eat hamburgers" in that quote as well to conclude
that "Atoms eat hamburgers, too."

"Experiencing time" and "exercising choice" are not the the same. Its
ridiculous to conflate the two.
