[Mark] Environmentalists v Capitalists? [Arlo] Capitalism is as "bereft" of morals as "science". We need to start realizing here that both of these babies are born from the same mother, suckle at the same teet. The same S/O malady that afflicts science, afflicts capitalism, which commodifies people along with everything else. Humans become "resources" to be used, exploited, toss aside and rewarded in strictly economic considerations. While GM's tops execs gave themselves millions in bonuses, they sent thousands into unemployment... capitalism.
My comments here are only that "capitalism" has no provisions to see the world as anything but an economic resource. Forests can be leveled to make superhighways to move goods, millions of tons of plastics can be tossed into our oceans because, well, who the fuck cares? [Mark] I suppose capitalists is used in a derogatory fashion by those who went out and bought a computer to join in the forum. [Arlo] In the same way science is used in a derogatory fashion by those who went out and bought a *computer* to join in the forum. [Mark] The problem that I have with some environmentalist is that they think they know the Truth. [Arlo] And you think the right-wing ideologues DON'T? We only ever condemn people for thinking they are right, when they disagree with us. Its convenient, no? [Mark] It is this righteous sense of morality that many environmentalists have that somehow elevates them to a more religious level that is annoying. [Arlo] Yeah, I said this before, the argument always includes a "science is a religion" component for theist apologists. The "morality" of science IS more "moral" than the religious/social level it is supposed to control. [Mark] It is another PC abuse. [Arlo] How many bugbears can you hit with one stone? [Mark] Capitalists try to live well as best they know. [Arlo] Don't "environmentalists"? Oh the plight of the poor, noble capitalist, surrounded at all sides by evil, black-toothed tyrannists who hold their forks in the middle. [Mark] Reasonable environmentalism? That is an oxymoron. [Arlo] Yeah, fuck all those idiots who don't think turning our oceans and forests into garbage dumps is a good idea. How dare we let "reasonable" concern for our environment impede our love of Holy Money. [Mark] Best if the US just imploded. [Arlo] I'm actually with you here. When we divvy up the country, however, be sure YOU get the landfills around here that used to be hikeable forests. Maybe you could build a summer home there. Just think of the splendid glory of life for you where you could sit on your back porch and toss your plastic soda bottles over the ravine and into a giant dump! And no fucking commie "environmentalists" to stop you!
