Bonk me on the head? Sure Marsha, be my guest. Watch out for the big, big puddle on your way down the driveway. Stay on the right, next to the tree or you might float away.
Yes, the 'idea' would be a pattern, but an experience > need not be patterned. Instead of tenderness, try a > little meditation. Or, you once offered to hit me on the > back of the head with a 2x4, may I offer to do the same > to you. > Ok, let's take this one step at a time. You admit that "unpatterned experience" is not meaningful for me, but it is for you. So we have a comparison of contrasting subjective experience and you offer to help me see what you see. Meditation of 2x4, take my pick. I've meditated. I tried it for five minutes and then I got bored. Just kidding. I've tried meditating while digging ditches, but really, I wasn't meditating, I was thinking deeply. I like thinking deeply so I enjoy digging ditches. Anybody who enjoys digging ditches is probably easy to please, and basically a contented person. How do you convince a contented person to change their ways? Guru: Ah, but if you would only follow the correct path, the right teaching, the true way, you'd reach enlightenment and encompass all things under heaven and earth. Contented person: Yah, but I'll get there eventually anyway, just seeking naturally from inside my ordinary life. And I'd rather go my own way, follow my own path, realize my own enlightenment one step at a time than be constrained by any authority, teacher or guru. How are you gonna argue with that? Guru: I can't.
