Andre asked:
Clarification please Bodvar;are you suggsting that the importance of your SOL
lies in retaining SOM's 'objectivity'? A simple yes or no will do.
dmb says:
That reminds me. John Dewey's 1905 piece called "The Postulate of Immediate
Empiricism" is a defense of James's radical empiricism. And one of the reasons
that he was so enthusiastic about this empiricism was because of the way it
fits with the scientific method and with his own theory of inquiry and truth.
This means science is preserved without objectivity. You can see Pirsig putting
science at the top of the MOQ's hierarchy of values in the paragraphs between
his matching the MOQ to radical empiricism and his self-identification as a
mainstream American pragmatist. You can find this in the last two or three
pages of chapter 29 in Lila.
Nice work, Andre, Horse. It's been fun to watch. Thanks.
