of neti-neti
Ian said: I agree and disagree ;-) It does expand reason. It's not "no explanation", it's just not a whole explanation - what is anyway ? It's not "no choice". It's no (enforced) choice between the logical options (apparently) offered by the situation, ie a step back & sideways to find the BETTER decision. Ron: Well then it needs to be included in the explanation that "neti-neti" refers to dogmatic rigid concepts alone and not intellect as a whole. Because this makes a great deal of differrence in the meaning. It needs to be stated that it breaks the rigid confinement of what intellectual good means and not no choice at all or freedom from choice. With this explanation it means a greater range of choice. This is what I mean about a shift in context from an overall general understanding of what DQ means in relation to the overall "framework" and what DQ means within a particular context of dogma and rigid conceptual values. When the two are conflated it results in a type of anti-intellectual nihlism. Ron expands on his reasons: A case history example is Dans story about changing the oil in his Jeep. He chose not to have the punk at the jiffy lube change it, because the kid seemed to be going through the motions, not making any choices based on what is best, on Quality. He was working, working his ass off but with no direction. He was not making choices based on betterness he was employing a kind of neti-neti approach, really not thinking of what he was doing and certainly not oriented toward betterness. He was oriented toward freedom but a freedom from care also. A freedom from betterness and the good. Dan obviously orients his work toward betterness, towards Quality because Dan obviously cares about what he is doing and that makes all the difference. Dan is a better mechanic than that kid simply because Dan recognizes and orients himself with dynamic Quality. The kid may have more experience but Dan cares about what is best. That kid will hit gumption traps and solve them with force and or the replacement of parts or shoddy craftsmanship, Dan will open up his field of possibilities and solve the traps with greater precision and value ...Dan will fix the problem, the kid will address the symptoms and miss the problem costing the customer money time and aggravation, a low Quality experience. That difference is betterness ================================ Moq_Discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org/md/archives.html
