[Ian]
You're also creating straw men too ...

[Arlo]
My comments were not directed at you, Ian. I know that your call for love and
respect did not include the type of "polite insulting" or "... but I love you"
rhetoric I was pointing towards. My comments were that I've seen "polite
insulting" go not only unchallenged on the list, but polite insulters turn and
act smugly superior to (in this case) DMB for "name calling". And that was part
of the the de-evolution from Dan's initial comments for detente.

I did refer to your words once, and that was only to point out how immediately
Marsha jumped on my words, but ignored the same focus (on Steve/DMB) when
expressed by you, Mark or Dan (e.g.).

I do agree with Dan (and I think you) in that something like 95% of the time
calling someone a name is unnecessary and destructive. And while its never
constructive, sometimes its necessary and we all draw that line somewhere.
Where I may disagree with you is on the occasional necessity of calling a fool
a fool. But I never meant to imply you supported dishonest "polite insulting".
