Hi Marsha,
I suppose this began happening when words were created.  Words are used to 
share the sounds of thought.  As such sharing became codified, representation 
through words took a life of its own.  Such emphasis results in more than the 
representation of thought. In this way semantic Truth was born, in my opinion 
in the-present.
