     I guess by "...higher level of consciousness..."
your defining this as 'information that is processed
provides insight' and thus, the more information that
we process the larger our insight via information,
thus, a 'higher consciousness'.  
     I can see this, for we do have to be aware of
more 'stuff' now-a-days'.  Not only what advertisers
want us to be aware of, but also, what people just
have is more than what people used to have.  Try to
show a pre-European Amerindian a TV and he might break
it and use the glass to kill a deer.  These are static
events.  Try and give a U.S. business person a spear
and he might just laugh and ask where can I buy a
steak around here.  
     While I sit watching thoughts go by, I'm not
trying to achieve a higher consciousness by the way.
