OK Gav, SA ... constructive progress ... perhaps "preferred" was a bit presumptious on my part, but as you say "inevitable" ... a fundamental part of the reality of individual human life to have a social level of interaction with others.
I guess what we're fencing around is how "best" to describe (and dare I say facilitate) those social arrangements without saddling it with the millstone of a giant static pattern like "society". I too would say any community arrangements are a "society" of some sort, so what's in a name, but it seems Gav is harder on that view ? Sorry Gav, you're now inundated wth questions ... in your own time ;-) Ian On 7/18/07, Heather Perella <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > [Ian] > > When SA agrees and says ... > > "it is this connection with others, the social > > patterns, that > > determine how we, as a people, heavily influencing > > each other all the > > time unavoidably, it is us, living together, and how > > we value our time > > together, that's the social level in question." > > I'm agreeing with you, Ian, and gav on the point > that we are unavoidably involved with other people. > Gav called this "no man is an island", and Ian, you > point out a similar point, right? > > [Ian] > > Are you really saying this is the preferred social > > level arrangement, > > but you just don't want to call it "society" because > > that carries the > > baggage of the erstwhile giant ? > > No. I don't know what preferred social level > arrangement your saying, I'm saying.
