I had a low IQ ( 70's) third grader who was categorized emotionally impaired some years ago. We didn't do "levels" then, but I would say she read like a tangled first grader. She LOVED Shania Twain. I spent the summer working with her reading Shania Twain lyrics. It didn't seem to further her progress much. I would love to know more about your research.
