My "gut" is that the last period of the day is not > optimal but would 
appreciate feedback from this group.

I have taught 5th grade reading in the afternoon and loved it, too.  After 
lunch they went outside or played and then we settled in for the reading the 
rest of the day.  I thought it was a very productive time.

I moved to third last year and once again scheduled my reading in the 
afternoon.  The time slot didn't work as well for them.  This year I have it 
in the morning and it is working much better.
