Hi,

It would be interesting to hear about any studies on
this...I've never heard of any. Though wasn't there
some research a few years ago about high school
students starting later in the a.m. because they learn
better later in the day? I don't remember, but maybe
it's of some relevance here.

I've taught 3rd, 4th, 5th and now 2nd....I do believe
that the age of the kids is important to this
question. My older kids (4th and 5th) were able to
work well on reading and writing tasks in the
afternoon...sometimes they were a bit more awake! 3rd
graders tend to do better in the a.m., and I've done
it both ways with them. NO WAY could my particular
2nd graders do reading in the afternoon as well as
they work in the a.m. They are pooped by the last
period, and it is a struggle to get them to stay with
me. I don't know if this is typical for 2nd or not,
since it is my first year in this level. Luckily, I
have specials most days at the end this year!
