I use San Diego Quick and Words their way. My book is at school but there is a correlation page in the book.

I recently purchased the Lucy Calkins (Reading and Writing Project) for Reading for both 1st and 2nd grade. (We've used the Units of Study writing kits for many years and love it!) I read in the beginning pages about using the Words Their Way spelling assessment to help determine a reading level (informal, of course). After looking over the Words Their Way book, I cannot find a correlation chart. Is anyone familiar with this way of getting a rough starting point for early readers. I also used the Where to Start word lists with the Fountas and Pinnell kit and that seemed to work fairly well (although I am finding that the kids can "word call" many of the words, but when they read the actual books, their comprehension is lacking). Any thoughts about finding a good starting point for 1st and 2nd graders?

Appreciative,
