Thanks a lot folks. The placeholders functionality for numbers and dates is something very interesting and it crossed my mind to use it for tags too but unfortunately it doesn't link most formatting tags with the words it should. I'll have a look at that paper Hieu mentioned (http://www.mtsummit2013.info/files/proceedings/wptp2-joanis.pdf) that seems to be more along the lines of what I've been trying to achieve.
