At last some other summer residents are becoming more numerous. There were 3
Red-eyed Vireos back on territory along a trail in Chaska, and 6 were back at
Carver Park this morning. Oddly they were all south of Cty. Rd. 11, and none
were in the wooded areas around the nature center. One has been in that area
for over a week but I didn't notice him today. Indigo Buntings were back on
territory as well as a couple Eastern Wood-Pewee in Chaska. A few Pewee were
at Carver Park but not many of their usual territories were occupied. This
seems to be a good year for Wood Thrush, as I saw another in Chaska yesterday.
The highlight of this morning was a male Orchard Oriole singing away in the
open. There haven't been that many warbler the last 2 days except for
Yellow, Yellowthroat, Redstart which are abundant, and Blue-winged on their
usual territories in Carver Park. Migrant warblers were 2 Tennessee and 1
Nashville in Chaska and 9 Tennessee, 1 Blackburnian, and 1 Canada at Carver
Park. I thought I heard a Chestnut-sided, but he was being drowned out by
several singing Yellow Warbler. Otherwise, Blue-headed Vireos are still
passing through. There was 1 at Carver Park today.
