The only way to do that is to turn this into a moderated conference. And 
that brings its own problems. Personally the noise ratio here hasn't 
reached a level intolerable for me, but it's getting close.

This would scare me. I think we need to know and understand what 
Microsoft and other "competitors" are doing, lest we get out of touch. 
Also I would hope Mozilla would be going after more than just 4.x users. 
Maybe creating a group that is dedicated to comparing Mozilla with the 
competition, if there isn't one already, similar to what Andreas 
suggested. It's not going to be as good as moderating the group, but 
hopefully would slice off a number of those conversations, keeping this 
group more technically focuses on specific issues.
