Oh, yes, I remember (the plans). Where did it go?

That would be a good solution - that's what the sidebar is made for. It 
doesn't clobber up the UI by default, nor does it require changes or 
adding dependencies to each app, nor does it require prefs UI to allow 
turning it off. Assuming the general facility is there, it would also 
need hardly any new code.

(I do see that as addition to the native biff, but a slightly different, 
and thus sensible one.)
