We had the inverse discussion. Our mailinglist system prevented users
from subscribing. So we started newsgroups to create an open access for
users, who hesitated to subscribe.

Done. Christopher Jahn has posted them and I have subsribed to them 
(WITH SSL access;-)

Mysteriously the bug is gone. The filters work today. I have no idea 
what action provoked the bug.
